At last we have Longer Days so that light is not a problem for us sewers.

I love to be able to use natural light rather than the artificial sort. Natural light makes it easier to see so less strain on the eyes.

Stitching outside is something I love to do and I plan to get the lucky man of the moment to make me a table just for this purpose. It will need to be solid, stable and large. Able to take the sewing machine working flat out. It will need a cover I think for the rainy days but if its treated I suppose it should be okay. If he is reading this blog it will be the first time I have mentioned it to him.

Out and About

This week we have been to the Makit Fair in Peterborough. A fabulous new venue. Thank you everybody who came and said hello, joined in the make and take, and for the organisers of course who make it all possible. I am looking forward to the next one in St Ives. One conversation I had with a number of people was the sad fact that the various guilds are in decline and what we can do to give them a boost. I would like to write a piece on this so I am asking for your thoughts on it. Why do you think the Embroiderers Guild, Quilt Guild and Lace Guild are not thriving? Either respond to this blog or email me on [email protected]

I have also had a great meeting with some lovely ladies in the Pinchbeck community Hub about delivering workshops for their craft group once a month. The first will be a Powertex workshop on the 8th of June. For more information just contact Beautiful Designs on 07846733943. Then in July we will be introducing hand stitch. Blackwork  with a modern twist.

And then there is The Barn in Long Sutton. My little shop is now filling up nicely with haberdashery and hand made goods. On a Thursday evening from 4 pm till 7 pm I will be organising make and takes as well as short workshops. Starting this Thursday with a Powertex make and take. Then on weekends there will be other workshops including mixed media tasters.

Coming up

This weekend I will be with other makers in Thornham Village Hall from 10 am till 4 pm for Textiles in Action. Come along and see all the different types of textiles from Weaving to hand stitch and everything in between

The Barn in Long Sutton have a Car Boot along with a family fun day. From 10 am till 4 pm. Care boot pitches are free this month so why not get in touch and see whats going on?

West Norfolk Embroiderers guild meeting is at Knights Hill on Wednesday 29th May from 19.30 till 21.30. why not pop along and listen Moira Neal talking about an old cotton sheet??. You will be made welcome by our members and who knows you may like to join.

And last but not least

Our lovely chickens have a new boyfriend. He is lovely and just finding his voice. On your next visit to the studio stop and say hello to him. Steve 4th is black and white with green tail feathers. Very different from the others.

The lambs will be moving to their new homes at the end of this week. Though we are keeping one who is definitely a little princess.

The Embroiderers guild met at St Nicholas Chapel to discuss the exhibition we are putting on in July. The Rainbow Wall Exhibition is on Saturday 13th of July and Sunday the 14th. Not only will there be the exhibition but stalls and make and take too.

Workshops

I want to thank the customers who have been in for one to one workshops. we have had fun. these workshops included making Christmas baubles and mixed media books.

On Sunday we had a fabulous workshop with Pauline Wrighton teaching us how to be more creative with out sewing machines and what all the feet are for. Pauline introduced us to a new book for Bernina machines explaining all the feet and tricks to make us more successful when using them. My lovely sister has ordered me a copy.

Retail

The shop at The Barn is now called EBS Retail. We spent a couple of days and a long evening laying carpet and moving the shop around to make it more appealing to our customers. It is also much warmer now that the carpet is down.

We have had a roller-coaster of a week at Eau Brink Studio.

Lots of great things are happening with the workshops filling fairly quickly.

Pauline Wrighton will be with us on Sunday the 12th of May. Teaching us how to use all the different feet for a more creative sewing experience. We have only one space left on this workshop.

Experimental Wednesday was a great deal of fun. We were pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones by using a mixed medial technique inspired by Nikki Parmeter. Using a number of layers of sheer fabrics and threads with free motion machine stitching to create the patterns on the surface.

The saddest part of our week was, we had to say goodbye to Marlow. A lovely dog who lived with us for 14 years. He loved coming into the studio for the day. Greeting all the visitors and of course eating all the biscuits and treats brought for him. Thank you all for that and for the support I have received from you on his last day.

We have also been working over at the Barn on our shop, improving them area and helping customers find the items they are looking for. I have decided that we will no longer be offering workshops at The Barn as it became very complicated getting the items we needed over there on a daily bases. Which basically means I kept forgetting things.

The newest part of our business is on Amazon Handmade. Take a look and see what you think. I am adding items slowly as it takes a while so only three on there at this time. https://www.amazon.co.uk/handmade/Eau-Brink-Studio?fbclid=IwAR1Zy0quRkQWQlFy1gO0aRDOrxlx100vmDG-fC0mm8N5kjAEtRJ5yhRq0Xs

What do we have to look forward to then?
