Meet Anita O'Neill

Sewing has always been a part of my life. My Mother was a Taylor working for the armed forces and in the private industry. If she was not altering somebodies clothes she was making wedding dresses and home furnishings. I never enjoyed the structural work but always helped with the embellishing where I was permitted.

At the grand old age of 16 I was given my first sewing machine. A very old singer which I used until I was 24 and then replaced it will a Janome. Now I predominately use a Pfaff but also have a lovely old Bernina to use too.

My sewing career started with a lovely lady called Christine Davey who taught me may techniques through the WI and her own sewing groups and eventually into City and Guilds. I Moved to Kent after the first year of City and Guilds and finished it with a fantastically colourful lady called Ruth Issett. It was Ruth,  in her own way, gave me licence to use many colours, that up to this point I would not have thought of using before.

I gained my Qualification for level I in 2000 and II with Design in 2002.  I am also a qualified tutor level I for Powertex. I and II. I now work for exhibitions and continue learning through attending other courses with other tutors at Eau Brink Studio and in their own space.

In October 2013 I returned to Norfolk to set up a studio where I wanted to teach mixed media textiles as well as encourage other tutors into the area.

Today Eau Brink Studio is going from strength to strength. I try to vary the workshops over the year to ensure we can cater for all disciplines within the textile world and now  we include art classes with established artists.

Regular workshops include Basic Embroidery, Experimental Wednesday, Social Wednesday as well as many other workshops include  Amanda Hislop, Alison Hulme and many others.

As a member of the West Norfolk Artists Association I am now an exhibiting artist and my work can be seen at a number of venues locally over the year.

I am very lucky to be able to attend the Creative Craft shows at the NEC and Farnborough where I get to teach as well as demonstrate on my stand.
