Introduction to Linocut Printing with Rachel Collier-Wilson

January 17 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Introduction to Linocut Printing with Rachel Collier-Wilson

Come and learn or refresh your skills in the art of Linocut printmaking with experienced printmaker Rachel Collier-Wilson. We will provide a relaxed, inclusive environment to explore your creativity.

Starting with drawing, designing and creating your own images; safely cut the lino block; ink the plate; and hand-print your design. we can then explore different methods of adding colour using multiple blocks, or using what’s known as the reduction method. Once completed, you will have a block to take away with you to use again and several handmade prints.

The workshop will include:

  • Explanation of relief printing and looking at examples.
  • Introduction to equipment and cutting techniques.
  • Planning an image and cutting the design.
  • Use of rollers and how to ink up your block.
  • How to print with both a press and with a wooden spoon.

Experience Levels:

  • Beginner and/or those wishing to refresh their skills.
  • Lino cutting is one of the most accessible of the printmaking process. This is a very hands-on course; the process of carving is very mindful and incredibly satisfying. However, the use of shape tools does make it unsuitable for young children.

What you will need:

  • An apron or an old shirt to protect your clothing from the ink.
  • Inspiration for your design. (Rachel can provide help with design and layout and also provide plenty of examples).
  • £5.00 for Materials to be paid to Rachel on the day
