Shrivel Up and Dye with Mary Mcintosh

Shrivel Up and Dye

Using a shrinkable fabric base you will layer up and machine stitch lots of different fabrics – silks, cottons, linens and lace – before dyeing and then washing to shrink to create a richly coloured and highly textured surface. On the second day you will add hand stitch and embellishments to further enrich the surface.

Requirements for Shrivel Up and Dye – two day workshop
Using shrinkable fabric to create a highly textured and coloured panel with lots of ideas on how to add hand stitch and embellishment for a piece of stitched textile work. You will learn lots about the principles of colour and using procion dyes and their effects on different natural fabrics.

I will provide a pack of materials to use on the workshop which will include:
A piece of the shrinkable fleece or artic wool felt. Plus 10 different fabrics – silks, velvets, cottons, linens, muslins, cotton tapes and lace. Dyes will also be provided in a range of colours. Cost £10 per person.
