Specialised Weaving / Bring your own loom! With Jennifer Anne Studios

Do you have a loom sat at home but you’re not sure where to start? Have you tried setting it up but keep getting stuck and can’t find the answers online?  Then why not bring it to our specialised weaving group! Run by Jennifer Anne Studios, an emerging textile and fibre artist from Norfolk, Jenny specialises in hand woven textiles pushing technique and fibre in unusual and contemporary ways.

After graduating from Textile Design specialising in weave in 2019, Jenny is currently studying her Master’s at Nottingham Trent University continuing her research within the technical exploration of hand woven cloth in conjunction with the relationship between fibre and cloth and normalisation of using waste-by product materials within the textiles industry. As well as weaving, Jenny is an avid spinner who enjoys pushing the boundaries of unconventional materials and exploring these potentials within her weaves. Jenny was awarded a top scholar by the Worshipful Company of Weavers in 2021, exhibiting her work to professionals in the field. To find out more please visit: www.jenniferannestudios.co.uk

Jenny is highly skilled in woven textiles, working on a variety of looms such as table looms, floor looms, TC2, Arm Loom, and Jacquard to name a few. Having access to her own looms in her studio in Norfolk, Jenny owns a 1960’s 16 shaft George Wood wide dobby floor loom as well as a 4-shaft table loom where she develops her MA work and professional practice.

This session is aimed at those that want to delve into the world of weaving and advance their skills. If you are a beginner, I would recommend attending Jenny’s beginner session first, ‘Weaving Basics with Jennifer Anne Studios’ to learn the fundamentals of weaving and understand the terminology used within weaving to further advance. These are held every 3rd Saturday of the month at Eau Brink Studio and all levels are welcome.

The session will be led on a case-by-case basis, depending on the type of looms and content wished to be covered – therefore it will be personal and tailored towards you! This means it is also a great chance to see what other people bring and discover the types of looms out there and what can be achieved on them, allowing you to discover what your next loom purchase might be!

The sessions may include:

  • Setting up your loom
  • Understanding your type of loom
  • What you can achieve on your loom
  • Tips and tricks
  • Threading Plans
  • Lifting Plans
  • Warp making
  • Warping up
  • Warp Planning
  • Weaving on your loom
  • Trouble shooting / Problem Solving
  • Where to start
  • How to progress
  • Break-down of the equipment
  • Demonstrations

And much more!

You may come filled with questions or you may be completely overwhelmed and have no idea where to start, but this session is aimed to help and guide anyone wishing to get to grips with weaving. The types of looms you may have could include rigid heddle loom, frame loom, table loom, floor loom etc but any type of loom is welcome!

So, dig that loom out from the back of your studio and let’s get weaving!

Jenny will bring her 4-shaft table-top loom and warping mill for the purpose of demonstrations along with a selection of woven samples she has produced to give you inspiration and ideas on the types of things you can achieve with weaving as well as a selection of books and resources you are welcome to look through. Anita, (owner of Eau Brink Studio) will also have her Countermarche floor loom set up for demonstration purposes.
