                           Ruth’s Wednesday: Beautiful 3D Birds

The first this you will be doing is creating a variety of 3D birds in different styles from patterns that you can keep and use again. These will be done in callico and some will be stuffed before you embellish them and others will be embellished firsted then constructed and stuffed. This will give you a range of approaches you can adapt to suit yourself. I will supply a wide range of hand dyed and printed fabrics. However Anita will allso supply fabrics from the beautiful ranges you has in her shop that you can buy from her on the day should you want to.  All other materials threads and embellishments will be provided as usual.

All you have to do is bring yourself, your sewing kit and sewing machine and your lunch. All drinks are supplied and there are snacks and cake too.

This week we are working on making backgrounds using Mulsin, tissue papers, paint, cling film or very cheap sandwich bags, plus other items.

Anita is on hand to help you on your way with what ever medium you wish to use.

You may want to play with colour or use different stitches for your art. Maybe a combination of traditional and modern stitching, Paper and fabric or how about dyeing and painting before you stitch into your work?

If you prefer to have an end result in mind that’s okay as well as just seeing where the experience takes you.

This workshop is designed for you to be able to continue to work on a project or start a new one.

Materials are not included , However, if you wish to have a go at something new just let Anita know in advance and she will help you with a materials list or let you know if it is something already in stock for you to use.

SOCIAL WEDNESDAYS

If you would like to spend time with like minded people then join us for some light hearted banter, or even a heavy discussion on the merits of different fabrics, threads and other crafting materials.

Or if you prefer to just sit and listen to what we are all chatting about whilst you do your own thing that’s fine too.

You can bring along your sewing machine and other electrical equipment to use if you wish. It must be PAT tested but do not worry if its not John will do it for you for a very small fee.

All you need to bring with you for Social Wednesdays are your lunch and something to do.

Anita will supply plenty of cake to consume throughout the day along with the usual hot drinks.

                                 Pick an Artist and Play with Ruth Holmes

If you have a favourite artist bring along books and pictures. However don’t panic as I will provide artist pictures that you can work from. We will be exploring looking into the small details and brush strokes and taking these to develop abstract pictures using a variety of printing, painting, stamp making. we will enlarge small bits of the paintings and cut them up and re-arrange. Once you have created a number of pieces you can hand or machine stitch and embellish in any way you choose.

Paint, Collage, Stitch, Create with Gina Ferrari

 

Unleash your creativity as you paint and print your own unique papers and backgrounds, experimenting with colours, textures and mark making using a variety of techniques. Then cut them up and collage them before adding stitch with free machine embroidery to create your own unique artworks. This course is suitable for all levels of experience as full instruction will be given. You will need your own sewing machine and be able to lower the feed dogs.

 

On day one of this course, you will be using acrylic paints and inks to create a variety of papers exploring colour, tone and composition. We will explore colour mixing and use a variety of different techniques to build up a range of surfaces to use for collage.

 

On day two we will look at design sources before cutting up and arranging the papers from day one to create beautiful unique artworks. Emphasis will be given on helping learners to achieve their own original designs before adding the additional element of stitch using free machine embroidery.

 

 

Items to bring with you

  • A pad of A3 acrylic or watercolour paper, with at least 12 sheets
  • Thin paper such as copy paper
  • Papers and ephemera for collage such as music manuscript, old book pages, bus tickets etc
  • Acrylic paints – you will need black, white and at least one red, yellow and blue. If you wish to bring more than these basic colours then I suggest two of each of the primary colours in both cool and warm versions e.g. lemon yellow and yellow ochre, magenta and scarlet, turquoise and ultramarine
  • Acrylic inks (optional)
  • Posca pens (optional)
  • A plate or tray for mixing (or an acrylic palette)
  • Selection of brushes
  • A roller/brayer
  • An old credit/store card
  • Small piece of bubble wrap
  • A water container
  • Kitchen roll
  • Apron
  • Gelli plate if you have one (optional)
  • Pencil
  • Paper scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Sewing machine with tools and instructions plus an embroidery foot for free machine embroidery (you need to be able to lower the feed dogs on your machine)

                                 Marvellous Magic Maps with Ruth Holmes

Create a map of your house and surrounding area, or a place you gave been to and loved or create a completely original place that has in it all the things you imagin would be there. We will be using techniques including image transfer, hand or free machine stitching to suit your preference. You will start by creating a plan and deciding on what you will want to make it into. For example this could be a hanging, book cover, cushion or picture. You will also be doing some drawing or tracing to create images to transfer onto you fabric. A variety of fabrics will be provided to choose from for the front, as will Bump and backing fabrics for the quilting. Images of buildings, trees, etc will be provided but please bring your own if you have a specific idea in mind. All threads and embellishments will be provided as usual.
