Sewing Machine Confidence

Sewing Machine Confidence will show you that your machine can do so much more? Many of us know who to use our sewing machines tend to use them for straight sewing.

Even the old mechanical machines can do far more than expected. On the 4th Saturday of each month Anita will show you a new skill on your sewing machine.

This is not a dressmaking course. But you will learn the skills to make items using a pattern once confident.

During Sewing machine Confidence You will build a book of samples and add your own notes with the help of Anita to ensure you are able to dip into the sampler book at any time and still be able to complete the task at hand. Samples will include all stitches your machine is able to do.  Each stitch can be shortened, elongated and widened. You can also use the stitches for free motion embroidery too.

In the morning Anita will demonstrate a new technique for you to practice and in the afternoon you can use this technique to make a small object.

Every Month will be a different technique so you can dip in and out when you fancy it.

Each workshop will have one or more learners at different stages of their development. This makes learning more interesting for everyone.

At the beginning of each workshop You will be asked to ensure your machine is clean and lint free. Also if you have changed the needle. Once this is completed the machine is ready for use. This stage of learning is a vital part of Sewing Machine Confidence.

All Sewing Machines have to be PAT tested. If your machine needs to be tested it can be booked in on your first workshop with the studio. For  more information on this contact Anita on [email protected]

TASTER DAY

Do you fancy trying something new but  not sure what to get into? How about trying out making your own designs of fabric using three techniques.

This one day event will enable you to take home three pieces of finished work. Each table will be set up for you in advance. Space is limited as we can only accommodate one to a table with social distancing.

By the end of the day you will take home one picture in a frame A5 size. One free motion picture A5 size framed and one cushion with a zip. (The pictures are of previous work not what will be made at the workshop)

All materials are provided and refreshments but not lunch. Face masks or visors are required during demonstrations but not whilst working at your table.

        1. Printing on fabric using paint and fabric medium to create a small picture. You can make as many designs as you wish whilst at this table. You will also be able to print a piece for your cushion.
        2. Learn free motion machine stitching. This is great fun and once you get over the worry of using a sewing machine in a totally new way you can enhance one of your printed fabric pieces. You will be shown how to change your machine from straight stitching to free motion and back again.
        3. Cushion construction. This is for anyone wanting to make a cushion with a zip but has not idea how to do it or has had problems with putting in zips before.

POWERTEX RETURNS

After a what seems a long time we have begun teaching Powertex once again. Our first learners were a lovely Husband and Wife team celebrating their wedding anniversary. Rather than going out for a meal they decided a workshop full of fun would create long lasting memories.

The day was a blast and they managed to complete several items including a jar, champagne glass and canvas.

We not only used many Powertex products which included the fabric hardener, easy varnish, pigments and Easy Structure but added acrylic paints and Scolabrush to the mix.  The results were amazing.

If your interested in a days workshop with Anita just email on [email protected] or call on 01553 762115. Of course you can also message through www.eaubrinkstudio.co.uk and all social media.

Eau Brink Studio Today

Eau Brink Studio today is a very different story from when we started our little enterprise.

Art Studio Kings LynnAt the beginning we were open for classes taught by other tutors with a varied workshop list.  I had plenty of time to spend making items and practising my own art and skills.

The studio was relatively tidy most of the time and the fabrics were all kept in lovely neat spaces.

As we progressed and time marched on I found that I was teaching more and more and we were attracting tutors from further afield.  This meant less time for me to work on my own practice and the studio was more often in a mess.

Today we are established as a studio for textile art and crafts. Many other tutors return yearly to teach from afar and new tutors are being introduced regularly too.

I have managed to claw back time to spend in the studio on my own work by creating a new group which I can be me and work on improving my own skills. It is a lovely group which we are keeping small so that we can all help and encourage each other to move our work on.

The studio still has days where it is a mess but mostly now it remains relatively tidy. Though at the time of writing this there is fabric everywhere.

So whats new?

Kits are new. Lots of them too. Many are aimed at beginners to textiles from making cushions to panels for a quilt. Some are still in the development stage and others are ready to packaging.

These kits will be added to the website shop and well as being sold in the physical shop at Long Sutton.

Next Years Programme

Next years programme is almost completed and is very exciting. In the next few days the calendar will be updated and the new workshops will be added.

Included are our regular tutors and some new ones such as Alex Waylett as well as Jenny O’leary.  All being well we will be able to have a big workshop each month along side our normal workshops.

Talking of normal workshops we are going to be expanding those too with a little help of one or two local tutors.

Exhibitions

Next years exhibitions are also in place now and we are looking forward to attending the Makers festival in Norwich in February, The NEC in March, Open Studios, Brancaster in August and Granchester. With a little bit of luck these will all go ahead.

Terms and Conditions

Our terms and conditions have been updated and now are added to the intake forms when booking. Once you have read them and ticked the agreed box your booking can continue. These include the Covid-19 and consent to photography too.
