Progression in Textiles: Open Studio and Make and Take and Exhibition

Progression in Textiles is a group of like minded people working to improve their practice over the year, Meeting at Eau Brink Studio.

During Open Studios we will be exhibiting work from both 2020 and 2021.

As a group of individuals we are all working on our own skill set, pushing the boundaries, exploring techniques and taking subjects as far as we can.

At our Textiles in Progress Exhibitions you will see a wide range of work and styles from hand and machine stitch, 2 and 3D items, traditional and experimental as well as a wide range of subject matter. You will have the chance to talk to some of the artists and will get an insight into their world.

Also  you will be able to take part in a Make and Take. Make and Take is a great way to learn a new skill or to just have a go.

Our members want to help you learn and progress in your own practice of work so do dive in and try things out and ask questions.

Eau Brink Studio:

It is set in a lovely rural situation just off the A47 and you can join Anita there where she will teach you to make all kinds of textile art in safe regulated conditions that include:

Restricted numbers to ensure safe social distancing.

Track and trace is in place.

Face masks are worn if demonstrations are taking place.

Hand sanitizers are situated at the entrance and in the bathroom facilities,

Disposable aprons and gloves.

The studio is light and airy and there are all sorts of hand and machine stitch workshops, Powertex and Eco dying.
Experimental Wednesdays takes place on the 3rd Wednesday of every month, where you are more than welcome to explore stitch and other textile art skills.
Anita will make you welcome and there might be other visitors there to chat with and share the experience . Cake and hot and cold drinks are available on tap through out the day.  You will also find lots of other items for sale. Die Cut Kits can be collected from the Studio if preferred.

Long Sutton Emporium:

EBS Retail is the name of Anita’s shop at Long Sutton Emporium where you can get kits amongst many other items that Anita makes and buys in such a needles and threads as well as fabric.
The long Sutton Emporium is situated on the A17 .look out for the bright orange signs.

.  We are Opening again on Saturday 4th July for our first Post Covid-19 workshop at Eau Brink Studio.

This workshop is a little different to our usual line up.

Diamond Art Taster Day by Dawns Gems is a two hour taster class. Dawn will provide kits for all the family to try their hand at Diamond art. Dawn will be with us for a morning class commencing at 10 am. And then an afternoon class commencing at 2pm.

Our class numbers will be a maximum of 10 at this moment in time. However, if we are able to increase them nearer the time we will do.

It will be even better if we can move it to outside but that will of course depend on the weather.

So What is this Diamond Art then?

Diamond Art is a craft that includes a pre printed picture with glue already on it ready for you to place small coloured crystals in place. Once the picture is completed you can frame it before hanging it in your home.

Each kit comes with a stylus to help you pick up the diamonds and a small amount of putty to help them stick to the stylus before placing onto the picture or household item.

Dawns Gems keeps a good stock of items for all budgets. Dawn likes to keep up with the current new items being brought out by her suppliers which means her stock is changing all the time to keep you busy.

Keeping Safe While we are open again.

During this uncertain time we are living in we are asking visitors to the studio to keep to some new rules. I am sure you all know what I am going to ask of you but I have to ensure you are aware.

Please do wash your hand at regular intervals throughout your time in the studio. To ensure your safety I have installed a new soap dispenser with foam antibacterial soap in it. We already use paper towels and I have some hand gel by the door too use on the way in and on the way out.

There are disposable gloves and aprons available but no fabric aprons. Of course you can bring your own to use.

You can if you feel you want to use your own face masks or face visors or shields.

Please be considerate to others when coming in and out of the studio keeping your distance.  If you need any help with your equipment I can help you unload your car and will wear gloves to do so. Please let me know if you will need any help at the time of booking. If you are unsure please do call or email before booking.

When in the studio we will only have up to 10 persons at any one time until we are told we can increase the numbers but sometimes I may limit the numbers to 6 or 8 depending on what we are working on.  With this in mind I do need you to book in through the booking system so I can monitor numbers.

I ask you to place all cups, glasses, plates and cutlery into the dishwasher once you have finished with it. That way I can just put it on when the class has finished.

The Tables will be covered with a disposable covering which will be changed between classes.

And Finally

It is important that to me that you enjoy your time at Eau Brink Studio once we open again, so please do let me know if we can help you in any way before, during and after a workshop.

Gelli Plate Printing part 1

Yesterday I uploaded a new Video on my YouTube Channel for you. Just pop over to YouTube and search Eau Brink Studio and you will see Gilli Plate Printing part one.
Our Classes and workshops are predominately fabric and textile led. However the  majority of our classes can be adapted to work with paper and card too.
Every workshop on this channel is demonstrated by Anita O’Neill in real time.

Each video is approximately 15 minutes long to make it easy for you to follow each step.

The aim of the channel is to encourage you to try new forms of art and stitch.
If you like what you see and find you want more just book into Eau Brink Studio for a group workshop, join in a planned workshop or book a one to one with Anita for her full attention.

Gelli Plate Printing Part 1 is the first video on Gelli Plate Printing on my YouTube Channel.  This video shows you how to use your Gelli Plate to print onto fabric and paper. Filmed in real time making it easy to follow.

What comes after part 1?

Part 2 and 3 will be added over the next few days so make sure you keep an eye out for them.

Part 2 will show you how to layer up your colours and textures. We did touch on this in part one but there is so much more you can do with your Gelli plate.

Part 3 will show you how to transfer pictures from magazines and prints. This one make take a little longer as you have to get the right amount of paint onto the Gelli for this to work.

Getting a good print does take a bit of practice but it is worth it in the end. It also depends on the quality of paper and the original print.

November 25, 2019
nov2019-4508-min-1280x1280.jpg

End of November already?

How can it be the end of November already? I have been so busy the month has just gone.

So what have I been up to?

Back into the schools for fun with art and kids. So far we have managed to paint a great deal of paper, card, tables and children.  We have shaped air dried clay and sloshed paint onto that too. They appear to be enjoying it all.

New products

I have also attended a number of fairs this month which as usual are hard work but so much fun. I do love meeting new people. Only one more to go now and that is Makit fair in Solihul. Then I will be concentrating on other things.

The regular classes are going well but one or two could do with a bit more attendance or I may have to reconsider them in the new year.

The new Progression group is going from strength to strength. The work is amazing and I cannot wait to see the reactions of the visitors at the Forum in February.  We are also putting on a fringe event during makers month in February and will be in Open Studios too.  You can come and see our work that on progress, discarded as well as finished.

The other group I was asked to put on Socially Crafty may not continue into the new year but we will see. The next meeting is on Wednesday 11th December. 10 am till 4 pm. https://www.eaubrinkstudio.co.uk/event/socially-crafty/2019-12-11/ the aim of this day is for you to come along and meet new people no matter what craft you like to do. Bring along your work and share your knowledge.

Retail

The shop EBS Retail in The Barn in Long Sutton is doing well and I am considering moving it into a bigger unit.  It is a shame I cannot have a shop here at the studio but the Council still say no.

The Amazon Handmade site is also doing well which is a relief as I did wonder if I have stretched myself too far but now that I am into a routine it is good. I also have found a great way to send parcels that does not cost a small fortune.

The downside to all this commerce is I do spend hours and hours making items for it which takes me away from what I really like to do. But a girl has to live.

Whats coming up?

This Wednesday the West Norfolk Embroiderers Guild will be at Eau Brink sewing. This is one of their social days and you are all welcome to come along and see what goes on. Refreshments are available and the ladies are all very welcoming. Pop in any time from 0 am till pm.

At this moment the West Norfolk Artists are having an exhibition at St Nicolas Chapel in King’s Lynn, why not pop along and see all the fabulous work? I will be there as part of the group on Thursday 28th for the morning. Would be nice to see you.

Saturday is Makit at Solihul. Which will be fun. John will be there too offering PAT testing if you need it.

Looking forward next month

Anita

I am sure like me many of you have Lost A Month. Where on earth did August go?

Here at Eau Brink Studio it has been all go. Getting ready for Exhibitions and fairs, The Bank Holiday means a family BBQ for us and of course getting ready for Amanda Hislop to arrive for her two day workshop on the 31st.

NEC

So in order the first thing of course was going to the Festival of Quilts in the NEC. Not as an exhibitor but as a customer. It was a fantastic day of shopping and catching up with friends.

This is a picture of one of the many fantastic quilts I fell in love with. Unfortunately far too many for me to show you them all. Looking forward to next years festival now.

West Norfolk Artists

The next thing to prepare for was the West Norfolk Artists Association Exhibition which is currently in full swing at St Nicholas Chapel in King’s Lynn.

This piece is one of two in the exhibition.

What Else?

Throughout the month we have had a number of workshops in the studio for children. Working with all ages teaching them how to create colour and pattern without the stress of drawing. Many have returned home with sketchbooks full of fabulous colourful pages.

We also have been teaching the older children how to use the sewing machines for free motion embroidery. Drawing with a needle is getting popular.

Powertex is one of the none sewing workshops which is popular with groups. The best it about is the participants go home with something they have created without the confidence of what they can achieve at the beginning of the workshop.

Amanda Hislop makes fantastic landscapes

The next workshop is Amanda Hislop for two days on the 31st of August and 1st of September. This workshop was full but a last minute cancellation means one space available. If your interested just go to https://www.eaubrinkstudio.co.uk/event/amanda-hislop-sketchbook-workshop/ for more information.

Small Holding News

Other than a full month of work and a long weekend of play we have manged to rear ducks, and chickens. We have had a visit or two from the fox but to combat that we now have a  pair of geese. Hopefully next year they will become a breeding pair. Watch out Mr and Mrs Fox.

During the windy day we had half of a plum tree fell and the sheep and chickens thought they were going to have a feast. Not likely I managed to get 10.5 kg of plums to make jam. It is scrummy even if I say so myself. Not bad for a first attempt at jam making.

It’s Been A While since the last post as I have been very busy with a number of things.

Whats Happening?

Starting with the West Norfolk Embroiderers Guild Exhibition in July. I have been sewing items for the exhibition and gathering in others work. The work that has come in is amazing. The theme is a rainbow wall. We are also adding another section of work with all colours in it. Visitors will impressed by the level of work.

Visitors will also be able to purchase the work that is for sale, shop at the stalls, attend the make and take tables and sit and enjoy a drink with cake or biscuits.

The guild members have worked very hard to put this exhibition on and the committee members have spent hours planning and finalising the smallest detail to ensure visitors have an enjoyable experience.

I have also been working on items for the Art and soul exhibition in South Wootton starting on the 17th June in the church. This is a celebration of many local artists work. Not just textiles but other works too. Again it is free to enter and refreshments are available. The aim of this exhibition is not only to show the works of the various artists but also to raise funds for the church. Works are available to buy.

And as the year progresses we have the Textile Show in Wymondham which is always a great show full of fabulous textiles for visitors to see and buy. I understand this is probably going to be the last Textile show at this venue for a while as it is up for development so a new venue is being sourced for next year.

Then it is the Handmade festival at Hampton court. I love this show as I spend a great deal of time chatting to like minded artists and makers as well as the public who love our work. It is a great way to meet new friends as well as catching up with old friends. The fair is over three days so a lot of work goes into it by everyone who is involved.

EBS Retail is doing well at The Barn in Long Sutton.  Thank you to everyone who has visited the shop. I am aiming to keep adding to the stock on a regular basis. You are welcome to ask in advance if I have anything in particular you need and I will respond to your enquiries as quickly as possible. Just ping me a email on info@eaubrinkstudio,co.uk

Where are we with the workshops?

The Natural Dye Day on Saturday 15th has 2 spaces available. This is not the same workshop as the Embroiderers Guild later in the month.

At The Barn on Sunday I will be teaching how to create stunning Blackwork Cards with a modern twist. We will be in the coffee shop for this workshop.

Alison Hulme will be with us next week so we can print all we can and if we feel like it on day two we can make a pinnie or a bag using the fabrics we printed on during day one. Due to a cancellation we have 2 spaces available now.

At The Barn on Sunday the 23rd June we will be Shibori dying using Procion Dyes. A great way to add colour and pattern to fabrics. Again this will be in the Cafe.

The Pinchbeck Community Hub is a new venue for me to teach at. Once a month I will be there teaching something different. This month it was Powertex next month it will be Blackwork Cards. For more information on these and many other workshops that are happening there contact them using this facebook link .

March 23, 2019

Eau Brink Studio is taking part in the Powertex Open Studios this weekend . We are open from 10 o’clock till 4 o’clock. Why not come along and learn what you can create with this fabulous fabric hardening medium?

You can bring along a chipped ornament, bowl or garden ornament and we can look at how we can enhance and repair it for a small sum of just £10.00.

The ladies at the Walpole Arts and Crafts Club enjoyed making these plaques on Friday Morning. To see more pictures just pop over to the Eau Brink Instagram or Facebook page.

The school children this week enjoyed making pictures using foils from little kits. Fairies and wizards were the most popular. Then we made cards and envelops for family and friends. Not so messy this week. I will put that right next week though.

Whats new for me?

I am going to make jelly roll rugs. A small one to start with just to get a feel for it. I think also I can make bowls using the same method but a little tighter. watch this space for an update on that one.

It is a busy time at Eau Brink Studio and The Barn.

Why? I will tell you.

As some readers know I have spent the past few weeks setting up my little shop at The Barn in Long Sutton. Now it is beginning to look like a shop with my items I make. There are also one or two items from suppliers which I use when creating and teaching.

The next step has been to introduce workshops for children. Powertex mainly at the moment. Two hours where you can drop the children off and go for a coffee or shopping in peace. Just book them in at the desk. Pay a £5.00 none refundable deposit and then £10.00 to Anita on the day. See posters at The Barn for dates. We will be making wands like the picture shows.

This will include the Sundays when the car boots are on. Then you can drop off the children on the day at what time suits you while you go and look around the car boot. Again it is £15.00 for two hours.

Anita has a fully enhanced DBS check in place. We can accommodate up to 10 children at a time.

During the Easter School Holidays I will be organising the same workshops at Eau Brink Studio. The first being the wand workshop. To take a look at whats on go to www.eaubrinkstudio.co.uk

What’s coming up?

Friday the 22nd March  till  Sunday 24th March I am part of Powertex Open Studios. Open from 10 am till 4 pm each day where you can pop in and take a look at all the lovely things you can make using Powertex. You will get the opportunity to talk to Anita about this medium and what it can be used for.

The Powertex Open Studios will be on once again from Friday 29th March to Sunday 31st March again 10 am till 4 pm. You will get the chance to come and have a go during this second event.

Unfortunately I have had to cancel the Experimental Wednesday on the 20th of March due to an appointment I cannot cancel or change.

The children in the schools are enjoying a number of workshops on a Tuesday Afternoon this term which have so far included a great deal of messy fun.

The King’s Lynn Embroiderers Guild has changed its name to West Norfolk Embroiderers and are holding a drop in Sew and Tell at Eau Brink Studio on Wednesday 27th March from 10 am till 4 pm. Why not pop along and see what we are getting up to? This replaces our evening meeting on the same day.

The Guild members are preparing for their exhibition in July at St Nicholas Chapel in King’s Lynn. I understand there is still space for stall holders. All stalls have to be connected to sewing in some way or form. for further information contact Sandra at kingslynnsec@embroiderersguild.co.uk who will be able to assist you.

Due to cancellations I do have spaces on both of the Cas Holmes workshops in April. To take a look go to https://www.eaubrinkstudio.co.uk/event/two-days-with-cas-holmes/ for the two day workshop and https://www.eaubrinkstudio.co.uk/event/cas-holmes-postcards/ for the one day workshop.

I also have copies of three of Cas Holmes books for sale at the studio and The Barn.

Also in April during the Easter Weekend The West Norfolk Artists are having an exhibition at Thornham. Entry is free so why not come along and see what we have on offer? Spend a little time browsing and then go to the Deli for coffee or lunch. A great trip out.

If you missed our fun at Textiles East just take a quick look at this last post. We are looking forward to next years event.

For those readers who enjoyed looking at the work by a family who came to learn about colour therapy they are returning for even more with a few friends. I will of course post their day so you can see what they are getting up to next week.

Animal Update

We do believe our girls are with lamb and are eagerly waiting for the happy day they arrive. We are expecting the happy event to be in the next four weeks all being well.

I am busy processing the fleece from the last lambs before they went away. When carding it the softness is wonderful. I am bagging it up for the Makit fair at Peterborough. I also have a small amount at The Barn. It is undyed and I am selling at 10 pence a gram.

The ducks are laying again but the crows get to the eggs before us. We will have to do something about that. The chickens are also laying but we do not have a cockerel at the moment so no chicks there for a while.

The bees are busy flying and collecting pollen so hopefully both colonies will be in full flow for two lots this year. The rapeseed is growing so that will have to be collected as soon as they make the honey or it sets so hard it has to be discarded. We cream it so you can spread it on your toast in the mornings.

I hope to see you all soon

Anita

October 15, 2018

Sew what’s New at Eau Brink Studio then?

We have a small section of our goods at The Barn in Long sutton. Why not pop along and see what other goodies are there? I have planned a few workshops at The Barn which will commence in November. These will be a drop in day where you can make a brooch or jar with Powertex. Get to grips with Xpandaprint and Scolarbrush as well as  few more mixed media goodies to play with.

I am also going to be working in Silverwood  also at Long Sutton.  The plan is to run workshops commencing in November which will include dying fabrics, Patchwork for beginners, getting to know your sewing machine as well as the Powertex brooches.

Here at Eau Brink Studio I am excited to announce that Pippa Pease will be here on the 26th of November teaching a beginners Skirt Making workshop. More information will be available soon. It is hoped that we can make this into a monthly sewing group with a different project each month. The plan is that each individual will learn a new set of skills at the beginning and then add to those skills so that you can tackle any project.

I am very excited as I have managed with the help of Pauline Wrighton to at long last master book making. My books were always too loose and did not sit properly. It turned out that I was using the wrong threads. Thank you Pauline.

As many of your know I do make lampshades using Shibori techniques. Now John has been making the bases for me and I have been sewing into the bark to add decoration. The plan is to mirror the stitching on the shades so ensure they match. the challenge is to get the bark back onto to base without it looking flat and uninteresting. I am hopeful that I can iron out the problems before Wymondham in a weeks time.

We are nearly at half term already and the children in the school have been making witches and wizards. Pumpkins and stitched coasters. This week they will be making ghost decorations.  After the half term break I will be going into another school and we will be looking at making items for Autumn. I will be getting a little sewing in there.

Booking for the workshops for the next year are beginning to be booked which is great news for us all. Included in this is the Airbnb workshops. What are they I hear you cry. I have registered some days on Airbnb experiences which I means that anyone staying in the area can come and play by booking through Airbnb experiences.
