What a fabulous week. Alison Hulme visited with her lovely husband for two days.

It has been a very busy week at Eau Brink Studio. I am now making many items for a variety of fairs as well as the shop.

Trying out new ideas and techniques have been high on my agenda this week. But the most exciting part of the week was the visit by Alison Hulme and her husband.

Getting the studio ready.

On arrival Alison proceeded to to empty her car into the studio where we covered tables and laid out a huge array of thermofax screens, mark making materials and paints for all our learners to use.

By 9 o’clock all was ready for the next two days workshop and we relaxed for a while before retiring.

Day 1

Up early to bake a cake for the customers and put on the urn. Fruit bowl filled and we were ready by the time our customers started to arrive.

After introducing Alison I sat and enjoyed the day of printing and over dyeing with procion dyes. There were lots of fabulous fabrics being printed with lovely colours. Alison is an excellent teacher who can get the best out of anyone at her workshops.

Day 2

Unfortunately I could not to attend day 2 but when I could pop in I was amazed at all the lovely fabrics and prints. I was over whelmed by the help and support I received from regular learners. I humbly Thank you. Also, I thank you  for the lovely medicine that arrived. The clearing up was quick and efficient.

Alison arrived home safely and in a good time.

The feedback for the workshop has been great and already I have been asked if Alison will be returning next year. This is something I need to discuss with Alison in the near future. I will keep you posted.

This natural dye day is a  great day of learning . You will be introduced to natural dyeing following a short health and safety talk. Then a quick demonstration of how to prepare and use natural dye stuffs. At each stage you have to record what you are using and quantities so you know what you need to reproduce the result. A bit of science really.

Of course you can raid the garden at Eau Brink.

This class is restricted to six for safety reasons and two spaces are already booked

So don’t delay.

I have been wrapping it up with the fairs for this year. So now I have a little more time for other things such as my own development. But just to show you a little of what I have been making take a look at this little video.

I am going to be concentrating on bringing in the traditional work with art. How exciting is that?

May be a little more of items like this one. Which is now in Hampshire. I plan to use more natural fabrics and fleece in my work . You are welcome to come along and join me in this little adventure.

I am determined to get to grips with my Scan and Cut. I can use it for paper and felt but have not yet mastered it for fabric. This is going to be my challenge for the coming month ready for the new year. Next weeks blog will be about how I am getting on with it. About time too as I have had the machine since it was launched in the UK. I bet I am not the only one. I wonder how many of you have a machine of some description you do not use to its full potential?

To combat this problem I am going to be at Silverwood in Long Sutton once a month to show you how to use your sewing machines to make items using cords and free motion embroidery. I have also asked a lovely lady to come to Eau Brink Studio to teach us all how to get the most out of all of the feet our machines have. Keep an eye out for this one.

I have started to write a number of blogs for the coming year which will give you tips and links to videos on how to items. Such as how to use natural dyes.

It’s Been a Strange Week this week at Eau Brink Studio.

I have lost my diary and that has make me out of sorts. Not to mention stressed too.

So what has this all meant then? I have been rather ill which has not helped the situation but I have managed to meet my obligations except for one meeting and my personal goals of exercise.

Monday evening we continued with Embroidery Monday and Katherine finished her Blackwork piece which is stunning.

Hand Stitched
Blackwork by Katherine.

Tuesday and Wednesday was all about getting ready for Open Studios which started this weekend. For Eau Brink that meant two days in Thornham for Textiles in Action. I want to say thank you to everybody who stopped by and said hello. Also to everybody involved in the event which made it a great success.

Thursday as usual was all about Powertex and for me brooch making. And then off to the school for After School Art club. Where we made Whirly toys from CD’s.

So Whats Next?

Open Studios until the 10th June.

Everybody has their own unique colour story. Some of you may know your colours and are not happy with the results. If this is the case come and join us to add tones and tints to create your art.

Puffed up
Puff paint can be used for all sorts of things.

You can use  your own colours to create art in A Colourful Artistic Journey at Eau Brink Studio.

The day will commence with introductions over coffee and a little exercise into your colour unique colours by calculating your date of birth and name into a figure and working out which colours are you.

This will be followed with a little mediation where you will think about what your colours mean to you and what words will best describe those colours. For example one of my colours is Rose. The words I may associate with the colour rose are soft, velvet,  fragrant, calm, blush, pale, and delicate.

Once  the colours and meanings are fixed into your mind you will then create art by using only those colours and all the tints and hues associated with them. The art can be experimental, traditional or abstract. You can use paints, dyes, stitch, fabric, papers anything you feel is right on the day. the aim is to not over think it just do it.

Refreshments included but not lunch.

All materials included but you may want to bring some of your own.

Suitable for all levels of experience.
