Weaving basics with Jennifer Anne Studios
3rd Saturday of every month from 10am – 2pm
An emerging textile and fibre artist from Norfolk, Jenny specialises in hand woven textiles pushing technique and fibre in unusual and contemporary ways. Being a sustainability advocate, Jenny opts for more environmentally friendly fibre and yarn choices which results in the play and experimentation of otherwise wasted materials.
After graduating from Textile Design specialising in weave in 2019, Jenny is currently studying her Master’s at Nottingham Trent University continuing her research within the technical exploration of hand woven cloth in conjunction with the relationship between fibre and cloth and normalisation of using waste-by product materials within the textiles industry. As well as weaving, Jenny is an avid spinner who enjoys pushing the boundaries of unconventional materials and exploring these potentials within her weaves.
Join Jenny in this series of hand weaving workshops to learn the basics of weaving. Using a tapestry loom that Jenny has designed, and laser cut from sustainable AB grading, PEFC certified poplar plywood. The sessions will begin with the basic techniques of warping up your loom and covering some foundation weaving techniques. Experimenting with a variety of yarns and fibres you will have the chance to develop and explore these techniques throughout the workshop with the support of Jenny.
The first session will be an introduction to weaving and the basics, following on from this each session will have a specific focus where we will explore more advanced techniques, adding texture, using a variety of materials, colour and more! At the end of the session, you will go home with your very own woven wall hanging!
The tapestry loom kits are available to rent at the session which is included within the price of the workshop along with a selection of sustainably sourced yarns and materials to complete a woven sample within the session.
There is the option to purchase your own kit at the workshops for a reduced price of £20 (usually £25). The kits include 1 x tapestry frame loom, 1 x comb, 2 x pick up sticks, 2 x shuttles, 1 x large tapestry needle, 2 x small tapestry needles, 3 x yarn bobbins, written instructions on how to set up the loom and a breakdown of the tools and basics to get you started. There is also the option to purchase more fibre and yarn packs at the sessions if you wish.
The main aim of these sessions is to introduce you to the exciting possibilities and potential of weaving and most importantly have fun with it!
