Whats happening in the studio now then? A big spring clean.

I have spent some time looking at all of the stuff in the studio and shed and thinking about how a great deal of it is not used. Some has never been used and some has not been used for some time. So why keep it?

Today I sorted out all  old sketch books , took out the pages I wanted to keep, then burnt the rest. What a difference that has made to one of the shelves in the studio. I then moved onto the massive pile of papers and card and did the same thing.

Guess what is next? Fabric. I have a huge amount of furniture and curtain fabric that keeps coming into the studio and I will probably never use it. I cannot bring myself to burn it so will be using some for inspiration packs and maybe some for the school clubs. The rest will be up for grabs or going into the recycling centre.

Why the big spring clean I hear you ask. Well there is far too much stuff in this studio and the shed is so full, when looking for something I knocked over a huge basket of glass which is now behind a load of chairs probably broken. At this time I cannot get to it to clear it up.

The paint cupboard is done and all old paints have gone. Same with old dyes. When I say old I do mean over 10 years old. It is quite liberating.

Whats been happening otherwise?

The Easter weekend was a great one at the Barn. We took our sheep for a day out and the visitors loved seeing them. I demonstrated how to clean the fleece and card it using the drum carder. Children in particular were interested to see where wool comes from.

Also the West Norfolk Artists had an exhibition at Thornham. It was great to see everyone’s work.

Then came the Doughty Road Show this weekend. Thank you all for coming to look at my stall and for stopping by for a chat. I was amazed to find that it only took 1.5 hours for the Bosal rolls to sell. I will be trying to get more in for the Makit fair at Peterborough. Remember if you bought any to make jelly roll rugs that you must work on a flat surface and keep stopping to iron it if need be. Otherwise they make a lovely pet bed.

Coming up

We do have space this coming week for Experimental Wednesday. We will be working on a technique of layering to make items using machine embroidery. Based on Nikki Parmeters work from the Wow series. Pictures will be taken of the work and sent to Maggie Grey to see how we progress. Sewing machine is required on Wednesday.

We only have four spaces available for the Pauline Wrighton workshop this month “Finding your Feet”. This is a workshop for anyone who would like to know what the different feet are for on their sewing machine and how they can be used for more creative sewing as well as the more traditional.

This year we have sold our lambs on to lovely new homes. One is going to a vicarage and the other to the Barn as part of their petting animals. the other is staying with us.  Mums are being sheared in the next couple of weeks so more fleece to process.

I hope you all enjoy the warmer days and longer evenings.

Anita

April 9, 2019

Spring Madness has hit Eau Brink Studio with a flurry of work and new life.

First we have hatched some lovely ducklings. Eight in total. Then two new chicks arrived. And so far two lambs. The Moorhens are nesting and we have a young couple of wild ducks arrive. Luckily our domestic ducks have welcomed them. Even to the point of showing them where we feed our fowl.

We have had lots of fun with the children in the schools making Easter eggs and wands.

The West Norfolk Embroiderers Guild have been to the studio with Anna Shore making hand stitched medallions.

I have been stitching away making items for exhibitions which I hope will fit the criteria of each one so they get accepted.

I am also planning the workshops for 2020 at Eau Brink Studio. I will inform you each time we add to the calendar.

So where are we with this year?

Cas Holmes will be here this weekend for the two day canvas workshop starting on Saturday. Due to cancellations we do still have two spaces on this workshop. https://www.eaubrinkstudio.co.uk/event/two-days-with-cas-holmes/

Cas Holmes one day workshop on Monday also still has two spaces. https://www.eaubrinkstudio.co.uk/event/cas-holmes-postcards/

In May Pauline Wrighton will be with us teaching us what the different feet are for on our sewing machines and what we can achieve with using them. This workshop is now half full and has been sent out to the local WI’s and is about to be advertised on the local council websites. So if you are thinking of booking do so without delay. https://www.eaubrinkstudio.co.uk/event/finding-your-feet-with-pauline-wrighton/

June is going to be a busy one as we have the lovely Mel from Mellymade designs coming for two days to Revamp a Lamp. Again this is about to be put on the council websites as well as sent to the WI’s so do book if your thinking about it. https://www.eaubrinkstudio.co.uk/event/revamp-a-lamp/2019-06-01/

Then we have the fabulous Alison Hulme for two days getting us to print print print. you can also make a pinny or bag on day two with your printed fabrics. This workshop only has one space left.

September brings Amanda Hislop to Eau Brink Studio for two days and already spaces are getting booked up so do not delay if this is one you fancy.

Of course we do have our regular Experimental Wednesdays, Creative Powertex days and one or two other workshops thrown into the mix.

For Hire

The studio is also available for you to hire for your own workshops to teach just send me an email if your interested for a quote.

Parties are great fun for all and we have a great variety of crafts for them. From one hour parties to all day. Get in touch and we can discuss what you would like to do.

Will the Spring Madness continue? yes it will as we have one more sheep to lamb yet and more items to sew.
