PROGRESSION in TEXTILES

Progression in Textiles is a group of like minded people working to improve their practice over the year, Meeting at Eau Brink Studio.

Bringing our work to the public through a series of events to show how we have  moved our practice on from basic beginnings to finished pieces.

As a group of individuals we are all working on our own skill set and intend to push the boundaries to explore a technique or subject to its persevered limits. Each year the members of the group plan to concentrate on a different technique  or subject to explore. As work progresses more than one technique will be involved adding already explored work into a new piece. Or part of previous works.

At our Textiles in Progress exhibitions you can see everything connected with the subject including the rejected pieces. Talking to the artists will give you an insight into their world. showing you how a piece was constructed including workbooks and samples.

Also whilst at some exhibitions you will be able to take part in a Make and Take. Make and Take is a great way to learn a new skill or to just have a go.

Our members want to help you learn and progress in your own practice of work so do ask questions.

Exhibitions

Our exhibited work can be seen in King’s Lynn, Norwich  and  Granchester Village Hall. Not to mention Wymondham at the end of the year. For further information check out the Facebook page at regular intervals.

Progression in Textiles is a group of ten and at this time is full. If you wish to join us when a vacancy arises please get in touch on [email protected]

March News at Eau Brink Studio is more positive than you may think.

As directed by the government Of course we have deferred many of our workshops, Yes we have closed our bricks and mortar shop for the time being.  And yes Anita has lost the majority of her income.

But looking on the positive side of things.

Anita has time to update her Youtube Channel. By this I mean that I will be adding content to it so that you can watch the videos and still have a go. Many of the videos will be short demonstrations in real time. Making it easy to follow them. The plan is to upload a series at a time which will concentrate on a specific subject or area to help your practice. I have no idea on how to do this but with a little help I am sure I will get the hang of it.

Each section will start with the basics and then grow into more complex practice. I do not have it all recorded as yet but as I go I will add more and more for you to dip into.

It will also be based on techniques I am currently using. So for example Gelli Plate printing. This will start with a small talk about the Gilli plates and what you can use them for. Then each video will follow on from the previous so that you can save a library of content specific to your practice.

All content will be useful for those of you who like to use textiles, paper and mixed media. I will at the beginning of each video let you know what the process is suitable for and if you need to add anything for fabric such as fabric medium.

Once I get the first videos onto YouTube I will send you the link or point you in the right direction for the link on the website.

The next new page

I am going to also add a page for Progression in Textiles group so that everyone can see the work and get updates on where the exhibitions are going to be held. So far we have found that the Norfolk and Norwich Open Studios is not taking place but may be in the autumn. Also we wanted to exhibit at Wymondham but the venue is not opening this year. We are discussing having a virtual exhibition but no decision has yet been made. Progression in Textiles does have a Facebook page which shows some works and updates too.

Shop

Other March News is that  the online shops are being updated. Our Amazon shop also needs attention. It takes a great deal of time to keep items up to date. Not only do I have to make the item but I have to be specific when entering them onto the sites. Sometimes copying and pasting does not work which is a shame as it speeds thing up a great deal.

Work

The best part of all of this March News  is that I have time to concentrate on my own work practices too. And that is where I can link all of the above in my daily working schedule.

To do that I will encourage my son to film me working which is the content for YouTube. Finished items will either be added to the Progression in Textiles pages or onto the one line shops for sale. So it all should flow nicely.

I suspect the reality may be very different. Though I do have help with all the online work. Quickfire Digital designed and look after my website. So when I need help they are always there for me. I also have a administrator who is a godsend and working on most of the daily updates.

Keep safe

Anita

Experimental Wednesday at Eau Brink Studio is a fabulous day where you can play around with your stitching to create new art works.

Anita is on hand to help you on your way with what ever medium you wish to use.

You may want to play with colour or use different stitches for your art. Maybe a combination of traditional and modern stitching, Paper and fabric or how about dyeing and painting before you stitch into your work?

The aim of the day is to play, you can push a technique and see where your work takes you to creating new experiences.

If you prefer to have an end result in mind that’s okay as well as just seeing where the experience takes you.

Experimental Wednesday is a day of exploration, sharing ideas and pushing boundaries. A day of innovation and new experiences.

How will you learn?

Sampling is a great way to learn a technique and see how far you can push it. It is also a way to experiment. Anita has a favourite answer to most questions that start with “I wonder” or “what will happen”. The answer is simple, try it and see what you get. This helps individuals to explore without fear of failure.

Whats included.

With the help of my new administrator we are getting back on track at Eau Brink Studio.

What does this mean?

The website appears to be back to working again, Thank you to the tech team for sorting it out.

We are getting the calendar up to date with workshops including those run by other agencies such as the West Norfolk Embroiderers Guild..

There are two workshops available being organised by the guild. An Eco dye day and a workshop with Melanie Missin.

The next available workshop is the Gilli Plate day on 14th of March. Only three spaces available so book early.

Following the Gelli plate day we have the Experimental Wednesday on 18th March.

All our workshops start at 10 am and end at 4 pm.

Getting back on track has meant we have revisited all of the workshops and upgraded them.

What else is happening at Eau Brink?

First ever lamb born
Hello baby girl

This time last year we were monitoring our sheep getting ready to lamb. But this year we have rested them and I can confirm that I am missing the buzz. I will miss not having Lambs around this spring.

On the plus side we have had our geese laying eggs so maybe we will get goslings.

The ducks are reduced in numbers due to a fox visit which is very sad. The chickens are doing well and will be increasing in numbers as we have rescued about 30 birds and are preparing to move them this week. They will be in the same area as the sheep rather than with the others so that they can settle with out stressing the current residents.

So plenty to look forward to in the spring. Including preparing for exhibitions starting with the Open Studios.

Anita is also looking at becoming a Agent for a company selling haberdashery items especially for quilting. Of course she will continue with the Powertex too.

Looking forward to the new season.
