PROGRESSION in TEXTILES

Progression in Textiles is a group of like minded people working to improve their practice over the year, Meeting at Eau Brink Studio.

Bringing our work to the public through a series of events to show how we have  moved our practice on from basic beginnings to finished pieces.

As a group of individuals we are all working on our own skill set and intend to push the boundaries to explore a technique or subject to its persevered limits. Each year the members of the group plan to concentrate on a different technique  or subject to explore. As work progresses more than one technique will be involved adding already explored work into a new piece. Or part of previous works.

At our Textiles in Progress exhibitions you can see everything connected with the subject including the rejected pieces. Talking to the artists will give you an insight into their world. showing you how a piece was constructed including workbooks and samples.

Also whilst at some exhibitions you will be able to take part in a Make and Take. Make and Take is a great way to learn a new skill or to just have a go.

Our members want to help you learn and progress in your own practice of work so do ask questions.

Exhibitions

Our exhibited work can be seen in King’s Lynn, Norwich  and  Granchester Village Hall. Not to mention Wymondham at the end of the year. For further information check out the Facebook page at regular intervals.

Progression in Textiles is a group of ten and at this time is full. If you wish to join us when a vacancy arises please get in touch on [email protected]

Sewing Machine Confidence

Sewing Machine Confidence will show you that your machine can do so much more? Many of us know who to use our sewing machines tend to use them for straight sewing.

Even the old mechanical machines can do far more than expected. On the 4th Saturday of each month Anita will show you a new skill on your sewing machine.

This is not a dressmaking course. But you will learn the skills to make items using a pattern once confident.

During Sewing machine Confidence You will build a book of samples and add your own notes with the help of Anita to ensure you are able to dip into the sampler book at any time and still be able to complete the task at hand. Samples will include all stitches your machine is able to do.  Each stitch can be shortened, elongated and widened. You can also use the stitches for free motion embroidery too.

In the morning Anita will demonstrate a new technique for you to practice and in the afternoon you can use this technique to make a small object.

Every Month will be a different technique so you can dip in and out when you fancy it.

Each workshop will have one or more learners at different stages of their development. This makes learning more interesting for everyone.

At the beginning of each workshop You will be asked to ensure your machine is clean and lint free. Also if you have changed the needle. Once this is completed the machine is ready for use. This stage of learning is a vital part of Sewing Machine Confidence.

All Sewing Machines have to be PAT tested. If your machine needs to be tested it can be booked in on your first workshop with the studio. For  more information on this contact Anita on [email protected]

Warm Colours, Fallen Leaves: Autumnal Machine Embroidery Landscape

Workshop by Nodeen Salmon – 10th October 2020

Join Nodeen at Eau Brink Studio for a two day workshop creating a fabulous machine embroidered piece depicting trees in autumn.

You do not have to be experienced with free motion embroidery as you will have time to practice before working into your piece.

Nodeen will demonstrate each stage of the process and assist where you need it.

The aim is to create a autumn scene with stitch and paint. You do not need to be an artist as there are many ways we can  transfer lines onto fabric if required.

During the workshop you will be required to wear your mask or visor whilst watching the demonstrations but when sitting at your machine it is not required as you are 1 metre from your neighbour. Of course if you wish to keep your face covering on it is not a problem.

If you wish to bring your own cutlery and crockery again it is not a problem. If you have any concerns just email Anita on [email protected]

Lunch is not included but refreshments are. This is hot drinks and bottled water, cake and fruit. We do have a fridge for your lunch if it is required.

POWERTEX RETURNS

After a what seems a long time we have begun teaching Powertex once again. Our first learners were a lovely Husband and Wife team celebrating their wedding anniversary. Rather than going out for a meal they decided a workshop full of fun would create long lasting memories.

The day was a blast and they managed to complete several items including a jar, champagne glass and canvas.

We not only used many Powertex products which included the fabric hardener, easy varnish, pigments and Easy Structure but added acrylic paints and Scolabrush to the mix.  The results were amazing.

If your interested in a days workshop with Anita just email on [email protected] or call on 01553 762115. Of course you can also message through www.eaubrinkstudio.co.uk and all social media.
