PROGRESSION in TEXTILES

Progression in Textiles is a group of like minded people working to improve their practice over the year, Meeting at Eau Brink Studio.

Bringing our work to the public through a series of events to show how we have  moved our practice on from basic beginnings to finished pieces.

As a group of individuals we are all working on our own skill set and intend to push the boundaries to explore a technique or subject to its persevered limits. Each year the members of the group plan to concentrate on a different technique  or subject to explore. As work progresses more than one technique will be involved adding already explored work into a new piece. Or part of previous works.

At our Textiles in Progress exhibitions you can see everything connected with the subject including the rejected pieces. Talking to the artists will give you an insight into their world. showing you how a piece was constructed including workbooks and samples.

Also whilst at some exhibitions you will be able to take part in a Make and Take. Make and Take is a great way to learn a new skill or to just have a go.

Our members want to help you learn and progress in your own practice of work so do ask questions.

Exhibitions

In 2021 we hope our exhibited work can be seen in King’s Lynn at open studios, Norwich at the Forum, Brancaster Village Hall and the NEC in March and we are looking at the possibility of somewhere else in Norfolk nearer the end of the year.  For further information check out the Facebook page at regular intervals, in case of changes due to Covid.

Progression in Textiles is a group of eight and if you wish to join us please get in touch on [email protected]

Or if you prefer to just sit and listen to what we are all chatting about whilst you sew that’s fine too.

You can bring along your sewing machine to use if you wish. It must be PAT tested but do not worry if its not John will do it for you for a very small fee.

Starting on Wednesday 9th December 2020  on alternative Wednesdays, you are welcome to join Anita at Eau Brink Studio from 10 am till 4 pm for a day of social chatter and stitching.

All you need to bring with you for Social Wednesdays are your lunch and something to sew.

Anita will supply plenty of cake to consume throughout the day along with the usual hot drinks.

Covid-19 restrictions are in place and we have plenty of room for each of us to be at minimum of 1 metre apart. Numbers are restricted to 8 until the current guidelines are lifted.

3d Mixed Media Tryptch – Machine Embroidery

with Alexandra Waylett

Join us for two days with Alexander Waylett learning how to create fabulous 3d art using a variety of textured layers.

You will spend the first day working with Koh i noor inks and various other paints and metallic wax to produce a textural background with lens tissue, papers and string before on the second day stitching into your designs using your floral pictures as a design source. You will be taken through a series of steps to create the triptych using sheers and stitch to link all the pieces. On the second day I will show you how to create 3d elements to add to your piece – ie flower heads and leaves using water soluble in a hoop.

Requirements:

A variety of paint brushes to inc an old one inch one for gluing as well as more finer one for detail. Bring what you have.

A koh i noor palette – £6 on the day if you would like one let me know.

Lumiere paints or metallic acrylics if you have them. (Lumiere starter pack with the turquoise in is ideal if you want to splash out)

A3 Sketchbook/ A3 piece of paper (two A4 together with tape is fine and hb pencil – this is just for an initial sketch).

Treasure gold /Pebeo gold rub on (in brass) or rub ons if you have some. (I bring mine)

A heat gun – if you have one, or a hair dryer as its purely for drying work

A soldering tool – only if you have one. I will bring two.

A4 pics of your chosen flowers with backgrounds. Long stemmed flowers are a good choice as you will be using string to suggest the stems and scrim for foliage. Bring a choice of pics of your flowers at different angles and we will choose on the day if unsure. Country living mag is always a good source or google images! Send me pics if you are unsure. Please bring pics or the real thing rather than referring to an image on your phone! We will be studying the flowers, colours etc so the more reference material the better.

Large yoghurt pot for water and a white plate for mixing paint

A very small amount of untreated Scrim if you have some.

String in various widths. Piping is good or cord.

Your machine with:
Ext table
Free machine embroidery foot.
General sewing kit to inc metallic needle and spare bobbins and scissors.

Variety of machine embroidery threads in your flower colours.

A machine embroidery hoop – if you have one. I have several to borrow.
I bring all the materials to paint on plus sheers and vilene.
I bring a selection of Lumiere but very useful if those who have them could bring also.
Ill also bring a variety of scrim, wax and other bits and pieces.
There is an extra cost of £5. for Materials to be paid to Alex on the first day.
