At last we have Longer Days so that light is not a problem for us sewers.

I love to be able to use natural light rather than the artificial sort. Natural light makes it easier to see so less strain on the eyes.

Stitching outside is something I love to do and I plan to get the lucky man of the moment to make me a table just for this purpose. It will need to be solid, stable and large. Able to take the sewing machine working flat out. It will need a cover I think for the rainy days but if its treated I suppose it should be okay. If he is reading this blog it will be the first time I have mentioned it to him.

Out and About

This week we have been to the Makit Fair in Peterborough. A fabulous new venue. Thank you everybody who came and said hello, joined in the make and take, and for the organisers of course who make it all possible. I am looking forward to the next one in St Ives. One conversation I had with a number of people was the sad fact that the various guilds are in decline and what we can do to give them a boost. I would like to write a piece on this so I am asking for your thoughts on it. Why do you think the Embroiderers Guild, Quilt Guild and Lace Guild are not thriving? Either respond to this blog or email me on [email protected]

I have also had a great meeting with some lovely ladies in the Pinchbeck community Hub about delivering workshops for their craft group once a month. The first will be a Powertex workshop on the 8th of June. For more information just contact Beautiful Designs on 07846733943. Then in July we will be introducing hand stitch. Blackwork  with a modern twist.

And then there is The Barn in Long Sutton. My little shop is now filling up nicely with haberdashery and hand made goods. On a Thursday evening from 4 pm till 7 pm I will be organising make and takes as well as short workshops. Starting this Thursday with a Powertex make and take. Then on weekends there will be other workshops including mixed media tasters.

Coming up

This weekend I will be with other makers in Thornham Village Hall from 10 am till 4 pm for Textiles in Action. Come along and see all the different types of textiles from Weaving to hand stitch and everything in between

The Barn in Long Sutton have a Car Boot along with a family fun day. From 10 am till 4 pm. Care boot pitches are free this month so why not get in touch and see whats going on?

West Norfolk Embroiderers guild meeting is at Knights Hill on Wednesday 29th May from 19.30 till 21.30. why not pop along and listen Moira Neal talking about an old cotton sheet??. You will be made welcome by our members and who knows you may like to join.

And last but not least

Our lovely chickens have a new boyfriend. He is lovely and just finding his voice. On your next visit to the studio stop and say hello to him. Steve 4th is black and white with green tail feathers. Very different from the others.

The lambs will be moving to their new homes at the end of this week. Though we are keeping one who is definitely a little princess.

Spring Madness has hit Eau Brink Studio with a flurry of work and new life.

First we have hatched some lovely ducklings. Eight in total. Then two new chicks arrived. And so far two lambs. The Moorhens are nesting and we have a young couple of wild ducks arrive. Luckily our domestic ducks have welcomed them. Even to the point of showing them where we feed our fowl.

We have had lots of fun with the children in the schools making Easter eggs and wands.

The West Norfolk Embroiderers Guild have been to the studio with Anna Shore making hand stitched medallions.

I have been stitching away making items for exhibitions which I hope will fit the criteria of each one so they get accepted.

I am also planning the workshops for 2020 at Eau Brink Studio. I will inform you each time we add to the calendar.

So where are we with this year?

Cas Holmes will be here this weekend for the two day canvas workshop starting on Saturday. Due to cancellations we do still have two spaces on this workshop. https://www.eaubrinkstudio.co.uk/event/two-days-with-cas-holmes/

Cas Holmes one day workshop on Monday also still has two spaces. https://www.eaubrinkstudio.co.uk/event/cas-holmes-postcards/

In May Pauline Wrighton will be with us teaching us what the different feet are for on our sewing machines and what we can achieve with using them. This workshop is now half full and has been sent out to the local WI’s and is about to be advertised on the local council websites. So if you are thinking of booking do so without delay. https://www.eaubrinkstudio.co.uk/event/finding-your-feet-with-pauline-wrighton/

June is going to be a busy one as we have the lovely Mel from Mellymade designs coming for two days to Revamp a Lamp. Again this is about to be put on the council websites as well as sent to the WI’s so do book if your thinking about it. https://www.eaubrinkstudio.co.uk/event/revamp-a-lamp/2019-06-01/

Then we have the fabulous Alison Hulme for two days getting us to print print print. you can also make a pinny or bag on day two with your printed fabrics. This workshop only has one space left.

September brings Amanda Hislop to Eau Brink Studio for two days and already spaces are getting booked up so do not delay if this is one you fancy.

Of course we do have our regular Experimental Wednesdays, Creative Powertex days and one or two other workshops thrown into the mix.

For Hire

The studio is also available for you to hire for your own workshops to teach just send me an email if your interested for a quote.

Parties are great fun for all and we have a great variety of crafts for them. From one hour parties to all day. Get in touch and we can discuss what you would like to do.

Will the Spring Madness continue? yes it will as we have one more sheep to lamb yet and more items to sew.

A New Venue for Workshops have been organised for those of you reading this in the Long Sutton Area.

Silverwood, St James Rd, Long Sutton, Spalding PE12 9AU is a fabulous shopping experience with a room for workshops.

Each month I have organised to go into Silverwood and teach how to use your sewing machine for more than straight stitches. All you need is your sewing machine and a darning or embroidery foot. Threads and some fabrics. I will supply patterns and soluble film for the 3D effects.

Shibori Dyeing (tie Dye) using procion dyes is on trend this year. All dyes and some fabrics are included in the price.

Lampshade making using fabrics of your choice. The Shibori dyed lampshades work beautifully for this workshop.

Also returning is Powertex for beginners. This will include your materials to make brooches, bottles for candles, and boxes and plaques.

To book just go to https://www.eaubrinkstudio.co.uk/events/ and search for the workshop and date you are interested in. Whilst your rummaging around the events pages why not also look at the rest of the website to see what we get up to?

What else is new?

We now have a  YouTube channel. It is very new so please do go and take a look. Subscribe, and let me know what you think of the videos. Just go to youtube and look up anita O’Neill and you should be able to see it.

What am I working on?

PomPoms is the simple answer to that question. Hundreds of them. Which I am making cushions, pencil tops, rugs, bunting and much much more. I am amazed at how much I am enjoying it too.

I particularly love the variegated yarns. So pretty.

What else?

Experimental Wednesday is one of my favourite days where a lovely group has formed on the first Wednesday of every month. Now there is a second Wednesday where we will follow the same format we first started on so yo get to learn many techniques. Of course those of you in the first group are welcome to attend the second day if you want to go over anything we already covered. To book just follow the link. The first date is January 23rd and we will be working on Layers.  https://www.eaubrinkstudio.co.uk/event/experimental-wednesday-2-2/
