Experimental Wednesday at Eau Brink Studio is a fabulous day where you can play around with your stitching to create new art works.

Anita is on hand to help you on your way with what ever medium you wish to use.

You may want to play with colour or use different stitches for your art. Maybe a combination of traditional and modern stitching, Paper and fabric or how about dyeing and painting before you stitch into your work?

The aim of the day is to play, you can push a technique and see where your work takes you to creating new experiences.

If you prefer to have an end result in mind that’s okay as well as just seeing where the experience takes you.

Experimental Wednesday is a day of exploration, sharing ideas and pushing boundaries. A day of innovation and new experiences.

How will you learn?

Sampling is a great way to learn a technique and see how far you can push it. It is also a way to experiment. Anita has a favourite answer to most questions that start with “I wonder” or “what will happen”. The answer is simple, try it and see what you get. This helps individuals to explore without fear of failure.

Each Experimental Wednesday will include a structured teaching workshop for those who wish to participate. We will be exploring a different stitch each month and seeing how you can push the boundaries and see where it takes you. This will mean using different threads, and fabrics, colour and texture. Heat and resist.  Let your imagination take hold and see what happens.

Whats included.

Materials are not included , However, if you wish to have a go at something new just let Anita know in advance and she will help you with a materials list or let you know if it is something already in stock for you to use. Refreshments are included along with some materials.

Also if you have any kits you have not tried or did try but were unable to get satisfactory results bring them along and Anita will help you with them. Do discuss your needs before booking so that Anita can help you decide what you may want to do.

PROGRESSION in TEXTILES

Progression in Textiles is a group of like minded people working to improve their practice over the year, Meeting at Eau Brink Studio.

Bringing our work to the public through a series of events to show how we have  moved our practice on from basic beginnings to finished pieces.

As a group of individuals we are all working on our own skill set and intend to push the boundaries to explore a technique or subject to its persevered limits. Each year the members of the group plan to concentrate on a different technique  or subject to explore. As work progresses more than one technique will be involved adding already explored work into a new piece. Or part of previous works.

At our Textiles in Progress exhibitions you can see everything connected with the subject including the rejected pieces. Talking to the artists will give you an insight into their world. showing you how a piece was constructed including workbooks and samples.

Also whilst at some exhibitions you will be able to take part in a Make and Take. Make and Take is a great way to learn a new skill or to just have a go.

Our members want to help you learn and progress in your own practice of work so do ask questions.

Exhibitions

Our exhibited work can be seen in King’s Lynn, Norwich  and  Granchester Village Hall. Not to mention Wymondham at the end of the year. For further information check out the Facebook page at regular intervals.

Progression in Textiles is a group of ten and at this time is full. If you wish to join us when a vacancy arises please get in touch on [email protected]

October at Eau Brink Studio has been very busy. Even living with the continued threat of lockdown we are keeping our spirits up.

Visiting Artists

We started the  month with Amanda Hislop finishing her workshop with us on the 1st.

It was an excellent two days of working with very small pieces to depict a landscape shoreline. This piece is by one of our learners which she has made into a concertina book. Amanda will be returning to us in April and already we only have two spaces available.

If your wanting to join us just go to https://www.eaubrinkstudio.co.uk/event/line-colour-texture-in-landscape-exploring-concertina-books/2021-04-24/

After this workshop we were enthusiastic and loved the idea of working with smaller pieces to create a larger piece of art or a book.

The next visiting artist was Rachel Collier-Wilson who taught us how to drawer using a dip pen and ink. The results were amazing and we got to grips with the pens a lot quicker than we all thought. Rachel is an excellent tutor and encouraged us all to try and work freely which is harder than you think. Practice is needed. But when you have a fabulous pen and ink it is much more fun.

Using it to shade your work is a little tricky until you get  used to it of course.

Rachel will be returning to us on November 28th to teach us how to make lino prints. This workshop will be live on the website in the coming week.  https://www.eaubrinkstudio.co.uk/events/.

Next Years Programme

Next years programme is coming together nicely and the website is being updated at regular intervals. I was hoping to get it finished by the end of October but am a little behind. You never know I may get it there before November. Not only are we organising visiting artists for most months, Ruth Holmes is going to be teaching regular workshops throughout the year. Some for half a day and others for the entire day. That means much more cake to consume.

During the school term time Anita has started an art club for 11yrs upwards. This started this week with two lovely young ladies who are keen to learn how to move their art forward using different media. They are practicing drawing with their entire arm to free up their work. This is every other Thursday so Twice a month. Numbers will be kept at 8  children to ensure each learner is given the help they need as well as safe with the current guidelines. Materials are provided as well as hot chocolate and cake.

Progression in Textiles

Unfortunately we have had to put on hold our exhibition at Granchester this month and differed it to next year.

This does not mean we just sitting and chatting at our meetings. We are all working hard on next years exhibitions. A great deal of planning and organisation is involved. All members are working towards us having a great year showing off our makes. These include works of art to hang and 3d work. Where permitted we will also include make and take when possible due to current restrictions being lifted.

We are hopeful that our year will commence at the Forum in February with the Makers Festival.

EBS Retail

The shop is doing well at the Long Sutton Emporium. Lots of new fabrics in stock and little kits for stocking fillers. Yes it is that time of the year when we look for gifts for the coming season. I have installed a small heater to keep the shop from getting too cold. The aim of having this shop was to enable me to cease attending lots of shows and fairs over the year. Although I have achieved this I do miss the fairs. But I am booked into NEC in March so hopefully will see some old friends and new if it goes ahead. I will be running a competition for this where the winner will be able to pick up their winnings from my stand. Details to follow.

Smallholding

We have once again been visited by the fox. Poor cockerel is no longer with us. With this problem returning we have our new puppies who are in training to protect our livestock. Unfortunately the livestock are not impressed at the moment but then the girls are very small. Once fully grown the fox family will not dare to visit our lovely girls and handsome chaps again. We do have 4 chicks under the lamp and we think one is a cockerel. They still have some growing to do so are very safe in their current home. We also have some rehoming hens arriving next month so will encourage the dogs to patrol the perimeters during their walks to hopefully deter any fox coming into the premises.

We are now looking for a very nice boyfriend to service our lovely Lincoln Longwool sheep. Over the next week or two the girls will be fully occupied for a few weeks. I love seeing lambs in the spring and really did miss them this year. We tend to do this during the end of October as it delays the birthing to after the show animals are born. Just in case we need a vet to attend we will miss the busy season.

This little princess is now fully grown and it will be her first time introduced to ram. I am sure she will behave like a lady.

Wednesdays I am in my studio either teaching, supporting or just sewing. On the two Wednesdays when there is not a workshop on you are welcome to pop in for tea and cake. Visitors are always welcome at Eau Brink Studio.

EAU BRINK NEWS

Covid-19 Update

Well we have still to contend with the Covid-19 problems but luckily as we are a educational studio we can stay open for the time being. Which is good news. Though we do have to adhere to a number of rules to stay safe.

The first is track and trace.

This is not really a issue as we do have a great booking system and can notify anyone if need be. However, we now have to use the new App so if you have not yet downloaded it onto your mobiles please do. Here is the link for you to use https://www.google.co.uk/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwiCldfm7YjsAhVS5u0KHcLTACIYABAAGgJkZw&ae=2&sig=AOD64_2BLM87m_0qqctzVuzaMp-SLZ7Qyg&authuser=1&q&adurl&ved=2ahUKEwis8M_m7YjsAhVOXRUIHevEAbcQ0Qx6BAgNEAE

Once downloaded onto your phone you can then walk into many businesses and just scan the QRcode which is the square one and it will then let you know if anyone on that given day has reported in as positive.

I have this system in the studio now but if you have not got the app I will have to ask you each day to complete a form which is kept for 21 days before being destroyed.

The next is PPE.

Of course I have the gloves and disposable aprons for you to use but I must ask you to bring along your masks or visors if you are booking onto any workshop until we are informed this is not required anymore. The masks are to be work just during demonstrations as you are near other students. Once sitting at your table you do not need to were them unless of course you want to.

Then Hand hygiene.

There is hand gel by the door for your use as you enter and leave the studio. Also by the sinks and of course in the toilet. Though I am of the view that good old fashioned hand washing is best to stop spreading infections. So you can wash your hands as often as you like. Paper towels are used at all times.

Great News on the puppy front.

On Friday 2nd October we will be collecting two puppies who were found on the side of a road where they had been dumped. Sadly the rest of the litter did not make it. Although we initially only wanted one dog I could not separate these two sisters.

We do not think they are a year old yet and we also think they will grow to be about the same size as our last dog Marlow.

They will be encouraged to love being with people and hopefully will settle very quickly into our lovely home. Not sure what the geese will think of them but I am sure they will get used to each other. Mr and Mrs Fox watch out and stay away.

Progression In Textiles

Unfortunately we have have to move our Granchester exhibition to next year. This means we have more time to prepare for the whole year in advance. So watch out for the announcements in social media.

Our first outing will be at Norwich for the Makers Festival if it goes ahead in February.

Our next meeting is on the 7th October.

Coming up

Our next workshop is this coming week with Amanda Hislop. We are fully booked with a waiting list. Two days of learning how Amanda creates seascapes using free motion embroidery.

Really looking forward to this one.

October brings us two workshops.

Warm Colours, Fallen Leaves: Autumnal Machine Embroidery Landscape with Noleen Salmon.

Suitable for all abilities including beginners. We only have 4 spaces available now for this two day workshop.

For more information just go to https://www.eaubrinkstudio.co.uk/event/warm-colours-fallen-leaves-autumnal-machine-embroidery-landscape/2020-10-10/

Pen and Ink workshop

Pen and Ink workshop with Rachel Collier-Wilson. This is a first for Eau Brink Studio. I first met Rachel at a craft fair and her work is fabulous. This workshop is for all abilities and includes a basic kit.

You do not need to be able to draw for this workshop as you can use other ways to transfer you picture before using the pen and ink.

Limited space available now so if your thinking of booking just follow the link https://www.eaubrinkstudio.co.uk/event/pen-and-ink-workshop/

Powertex

Powertex has returned to Eau Brink Studio as I have received many requests for it. If you want to have a go just give me a call on 01553 762115 or email me on [email protected] and we will organise a workshop for you. I am not putting on regular monthly events at the moment it is one to one or your small group.

Shop – EBS Retail

If you have  not already visited my shop in Long Sutton but are wondering what goodies I have then take a look at the online shop. I am updating it frequently. However, I cannot put all the fabrics on it as they are end of lines and once sold there is not more. The fabrics I buy in are all either cotton, linen or a mix of the two except for linings and some of the denim is stretch.

The shop address is The Long Sutton Emporium, 59 Wisbech Road, Long Sutton PE12 9AQ. It is in the big barn behind MacDonalds on the A17. So you can also look at the other shops in there as well as visit the Cafe if you fancy some cake or lunch.

Small holding

Our animals are doing well at the moment. We plan a handsome boyfriend to visit the girls and hopefully we will have lambs in the spring.

The chickens are recovering from the fox visits and are more settled now. We have 4 chicks under the lamp at the moment and plan to put more eggs in the incubator this week.

The dominant Drake is still being a pest with one of the girls so she is still locked away from him with her mate. We tried to let her out but he just ran straight at her and cornered her. Luckily the geese where having none of it and dragged him off. Sadly it looks like we cannot let her out while he is around.

The Heron has given up trying to eat all the fish because a cormorant has tried to move in. We are chasing him or her off daily at the moment.

Estra our parrot has been moved from the small lounge into our hallway and is much happier chatting to everyone who visits the house. Thats a lot a chatter as our Airbnb rooms are fully booked for a while.

Thank you all for your support.

Stay Safe
