October at Eau Brink Studio has been very busy. Even living with the continued threat of lockdown we are keeping our spirits up.

Visiting Artists

We started the  month with Amanda Hislop finishing her workshop with us on the 1st.

It was an excellent two days of working with very small pieces to depict a landscape shoreline. This piece is by one of our learners which she has made into a concertina book. Amanda will be returning to us in April and already we only have two spaces available.

If your wanting to join us just go to https://www.eaubrinkstudio.co.uk/event/line-colour-texture-in-landscape-exploring-concertina-books/2021-04-24/

After this workshop we were enthusiastic and loved the idea of working with smaller pieces to create a larger piece of art or a book.

The next visiting artist was Rachel Collier-Wilson who taught us how to drawer using a dip pen and ink. The results were amazing and we got to grips with the pens a lot quicker than we all thought. Rachel is an excellent tutor and encouraged us all to try and work freely which is harder than you think. Practice is needed. But when you have a fabulous pen and ink it is much more fun.

Using it to shade your work is a little tricky until you get  used to it of course.

Rachel will be returning to us on November 28th to teach us how to make lino prints. This workshop will be live on the website in the coming week.  https://www.eaubrinkstudio.co.uk/events/.

Next Years Programme

Next years programme is coming together nicely and the website is being updated at regular intervals. I was hoping to get it finished by the end of October but am a little behind. You never know I may get it there before November. Not only are we organising visiting artists for most months, Ruth Holmes is going to be teaching regular workshops throughout the year. Some for half a day and others for the entire day. That means much more cake to consume.

During the school term time Anita has started an art club for 11yrs upwards. This started this week with two lovely young ladies who are keen to learn how to move their art forward using different media. They are practicing drawing with their entire arm to free up their work. This is every other Thursday so Twice a month. Numbers will be kept at 8  children to ensure each learner is given the help they need as well as safe with the current guidelines. Materials are provided as well as hot chocolate and cake.

Progression in Textiles

Unfortunately we have had to put on hold our exhibition at Granchester this month and differed it to next year.

This does not mean we just sitting and chatting at our meetings. We are all working hard on next years exhibitions. A great deal of planning and organisation is involved. All members are working towards us having a great year showing off our makes. These include works of art to hang and 3d work. Where permitted we will also include make and take when possible due to current restrictions being lifted.

We are hopeful that our year will commence at the Forum in February with the Makers Festival.

EBS Retail

The shop is doing well at the Long Sutton Emporium. Lots of new fabrics in stock and little kits for stocking fillers. Yes it is that time of the year when we look for gifts for the coming season. I have installed a small heater to keep the shop from getting too cold. The aim of having this shop was to enable me to cease attending lots of shows and fairs over the year. Although I have achieved this I do miss the fairs. But I am booked into NEC in March so hopefully will see some old friends and new if it goes ahead. I will be running a competition for this where the winner will be able to pick up their winnings from my stand. Details to follow.

Smallholding

We have once again been visited by the fox. Poor cockerel is no longer with us. With this problem returning we have our new puppies who are in training to protect our livestock. Unfortunately the livestock are not impressed at the moment but then the girls are very small. Once fully grown the fox family will not dare to visit our lovely girls and handsome chaps again. We do have 4 chicks under the lamp and we think one is a cockerel. They still have some growing to do so are very safe in their current home. We also have some rehoming hens arriving next month so will encourage the dogs to patrol the perimeters during their walks to hopefully deter any fox coming into the premises.

We are now looking for a very nice boyfriend to service our lovely Lincoln Longwool sheep. Over the next week or two the girls will be fully occupied for a few weeks. I love seeing lambs in the spring and really did miss them this year. We tend to do this during the end of October as it delays the birthing to after the show animals are born. Just in case we need a vet to attend we will miss the busy season.

This little princess is now fully grown and it will be her first time introduced to ram. I am sure she will behave like a lady.

Wednesdays I am in my studio either teaching, supporting or just sewing. On the two Wednesdays when there is not a workshop on you are welcome to pop in for tea and cake. Visitors are always welcome at Eau Brink Studio.

POWERTEX RETURNS

After a what seems a long time we have begun teaching Powertex once again. Our first learners were a lovely Husband and Wife team celebrating their wedding anniversary. Rather than going out for a meal they decided a workshop full of fun would create long lasting memories.

The day was a blast and they managed to complete several items including a jar, champagne glass and canvas.

We not only used many Powertex products which included the fabric hardener, easy varnish, pigments and Easy Structure but added acrylic paints and Scolabrush to the mix.  The results were amazing.

If your interested in a days workshop with Anita just email on admin@eaubrinkstudio.co.uk or call on 01553 762115. Of course you can also message through www.eaubrinkstudio.co.uk and all social media.

.  We are Opening again on Saturday 4th July for our first Post Covid-19 workshop at Eau Brink Studio.

This workshop is a little different to our usual line up.

Diamond Art Taster Day by Dawns Gems is a two hour taster class. Dawn will provide kits for all the family to try their hand at Diamond art. Dawn will be with us for a morning class commencing at 10 am. And then an afternoon class commencing at 2pm.

Our class numbers will be a maximum of 10 at this moment in time. However, if we are able to increase them nearer the time we will do.

It will be even better if we can move it to outside but that will of course depend on the weather.

So What is this Diamond Art then?

Diamond Art is a craft that includes a pre printed picture with glue already on it ready for you to place small coloured crystals in place. Once the picture is completed you can frame it before hanging it in your home.

Each kit comes with a stylus to help you pick up the diamonds and a small amount of putty to help them stick to the stylus before placing onto the picture or household item.

Dawns Gems keeps a good stock of items for all budgets. Dawn likes to keep up with the current new items being brought out by her suppliers which means her stock is changing all the time to keep you busy.

Keeping Safe While we are open again.

During this uncertain time we are living in we are asking visitors to the studio to keep to some new rules. I am sure you all know what I am going to ask of you but I have to ensure you are aware.

Please do wash your hand at regular intervals throughout your time in the studio. To ensure your safety I have installed a new soap dispenser with foam antibacterial soap in it. We already use paper towels and I have some hand gel by the door too use on the way in and on the way out.

There are disposable gloves and aprons available but no fabric aprons. Of course you can bring your own to use.

You can if you feel you want to use your own face masks or face visors or shields.

Please be considerate to others when coming in and out of the studio keeping your distance.  If you need any help with your equipment I can help you unload your car and will wear gloves to do so. Please let me know if you will need any help at the time of booking. If you are unsure please do call or email before booking.

When in the studio we will only have up to 10 persons at any one time until we are told we can increase the numbers but sometimes I may limit the numbers to 6 or 8 depending on what we are working on.  With this in mind I do need you to book in through the booking system so I can monitor numbers.

I ask you to place all cups, glasses, plates and cutlery into the dishwasher once you have finished with it. That way I can just put it on when the class has finished.

The Tables will be covered with a disposable covering which will be changed between classes.

And Finally

It is important that to me that you enjoy your time at Eau Brink Studio once we open again, so please do let me know if we can help you in any way before, during and after a workshop.

Colour Therapy Family Time at Eau Brink Studio today.

What on earth does that mean I hear you say?

As a family it can be hard to all get together to do something that can encourage creativity. Something that the entire family can do.

Today a family came to Eau Brink Studio to work with colour. The tricky bit is working out your personal colours. Once done it is just a case of using them to create texture and line using a variety of implements.

The youngest member of today’s group was 10 years old who became very excited when she realised that just by taking a rubbing and washing it over with a gold ink you can create something beautiful. we also had teenagers and parents. It was a fabulous day watching the nervousness disappear as they became involved in the art.

Some of it was drawing, some painting. We had textures with printing and stitching free motion for the first time. A spectacular result on the sewing machine. Just goes to show what can be done with an very old Bernina and a little imagination.

As you can see this is a very talented family. This drawing took a while as the young lady wanted to ensure she managed to get her drawing to look proportionate.

For one so young it is a great piece.

By the afternoon they entire family had managed to get a number of pieces finished. I love the colours in the eye.

Mum and Dad worked through a number of different ideas ranging from printing to watercolours. All with brilliant results.

Looking forward to the next Colour Therapy Family Time  just to see what they turn out.

This week at Eau Brink Studio as been a bit of a roller coaster of a week.

large working areaSorting out the studio has been a big priority as it is a mess after all the fairs so far.

This is what it should look like.

The children at school enjoyed making these wizards. The mess was unbelievable but they had fun.

I am thinking of spiders and cobwebs this week for them.

Pompoms and pipe cleaners for the spiders. Not sure about the cobwebs as yet. But I am sure it will come to me.

Teacher and Artist

Cas Holmes will be arriving on Friday evening ready for our exciting  two day workshop with her. That will include using found materials, mark making and stitch. It also means loads of cake.

Cas will be bringing copies of her latest book for you to look at and if you have not already done so there will be a copy or two for sale. Cas is happy to sign her books. So if you already have one please do bring it along with you.

I have had some major issues with emails not being received or going into the spam folders. Please check to see if you have missed any and tell your computer it is not spam. My computer guys are on it. I will keep you posted.

Whats coming up?

Please do check the website for workshops as I am now putting on next years. I am aware that there is an issue for those of you with codes to put in. I am sorry it is not working. The computer guys are also looking into that for me. It will be sorted once they work out what the problem is.

Tassels

Clare Hedges Passementerie workshop has spaces in October. to book just follow the link.

It is two days of learning how to make braids, tassels, and those lovely little acorn tassels too.

Passementerie is one of the crafts that is on the endangered list and is in need of some love to stop if from disappearing for ever.

Clare works with the heritage charities, the V&A and heritage homes in private hands to keep their collections looking like the original furnishings. She matches the colours and fibres to make the replacements.

Next years programme is now being added to the calendar so book early to ensure your place.

A Busy Week at Eau Brink Studio teaching, making and organising new mugs and coasters.

On Monday a lady and her daughter came to learn how to embroider onto calico. The aim was to make little bags to put herbs in to raise money for a local carehome.

Tuesday was all about the stitching. Machining items to sell such as the scissor holders. Aslo learning how to make small items of interest for craft stalls.

Wednesday children arrived to make a memory book, using many art techniques. At the end we printed out the pictures of them working to pasted them into the books. It was a great day of fun and mess.

At the end of the day the books looked fantastic.

Powertex Thursday. We had a lovely group in this week including a father and daughter who spent the day making brooches, dog tags, this lovely heart, and may other items. The interaction  in the group was great with everyone sharing ideas and helping each other to create fabulous items using Powertex. Our next Powertex workshop is on Thursday 23rd of August from 10am till 4pm.

Friday saw young textilers coming in to learn how to fill up their sketchbooks with colour techniques. They went on to make felt and use the sewing machines to make cords and use solvable film with free motion embroidery. To see what they go up to follow this link. https://www.facebook.com/eaubrinkstudio/videos/255423328628941/

And Saturday we enjoyed a day of Eco dyeing. Where we used a mixture of flowers and foliage from the garden as well as dried natural dye stuffs. The results were amazing and to see what we got up to just follow the link. https://www.facebook.com/eaubrinkstudio/videos/280654236087539/

Steaming flowers in fabric to be unwrapped the next day.

Sometimes the studio was very fragrant with fruit and flowers and I have to report there was one dye pot that smelt like rotten spouts.

If you fancy joining in on any of our workshops just go to https://www.eaubrinkstudio.co.uk/events/

Whats coming up?

Wednesdays are Experimental days and on the first Wednesday of every month we have a lovely group of ladies who have got together to form the Experimentals group. This group is almost at capacity now so if you fancy joining them come along and meet the ladies to see what we get up to.
