It was Ruth, in her uniquely inspiring way, who granted me the freedom to embrace a vibrant palette of colors I hadn't considered before. I have a deep passion for mark-making, mono-printing, and crafting my own creative fabrics, achieved through techniques like dyeing, eco-dyeing, and printing. Lizzy Curtis

My sewing journey began with Mrs. Newby, my childhood needlework teacher, who introduced me to her electric sewing machine at the age of 8. Encouraged by my textile artist mother, Lyn, I later crafted dresses for top stores, including London and New York, using exquisite fabrics like Liberty tana lawn. This experience boosted my confidence and led to a successful dressmaking business. After pursuing other work, I found my true passion upon retiring early, securing a job on Craft TV. I started my website and an online sewing group, fostering creativity and friendships. Teaching at The Cosy Cabin in Risby expanded my horizons, and I also ventured into designing acrylic templates. My journey has been shaped by hard work and determination. Retirement, while qualified, seems unlikely.

Angela Daymond

I am a devoted textile artist and educator, with a deep-seated passion for both kantha stitching and the art of natural dyeing. These two creative realms hold equal places in my heart, and I find immense joy in sharing my expertise with fellow enthusiasts. My journey into the world of sewing and textiles was guided by my mother, and my fond memories include my children's Holly Hobby sewing machine, which fueled my early interest in this craft.

Rarely will you see me without a needle in hand, as I relish any opportunity to immerse myself in the soothing act of stitching. What captivates me about kantha work is its elegant simplicity. Armed with just a needle, thread, and fabric, I harness the power of the running stitch to craft abstract and representational images that brim with rich textures.

One of my specialisations lies in the use of woad, an ancient blue plant dye that has a storied history in Northern Europe. The prospect of working with a plant that has been cultivated for centuries fills me with a sense of wonder and reverence. It's a testament to the enduring beauty and versatility of natural materials in the realm of textile art."

In 2019, my husband Clive nominated me to participate in the Great British Sewing Bee. I never expected to make it through the selection process, but to my surprise, I did, and it completely transformed my life. The time I spent in the sewing room, collaborating with an amazing group of creative, passionate, and hardworking individuals, both in front of and behind the camera, provided me with the motivation to make significant changes in my life and rekindle my passion for the things I adore. Now, I'm excited to introduce sewing patterns, haberdashery, and a variety of fabrics. As a devoted Dr. Who fan, I've even had the opportunity to use my craft to design and create a collection of garments inspired by the series, which I share with both myself and my clients.
